Tim Kawakami So what quarterback will it be for the 49ers

Let's ignore the intricacies and random coin-flip guesses and gostraight to the marquee questions about the 49ers' 2011 draft:Which quarterback will they get, how will they get him, and willhe be worth the effort?My guess: The 49ers will land TCU's Andy Daltonwith a trade into the late stages of Thursday's first round, orFlorida State's Christian Ponder somewhere in the second roundFriday.Dalton and Ponder are efficient, athletic quarterbacks who seemlike strong fits for coach Jim Harbaugh's version of the West CoastOffense.Neither seems like a pending superstar. Both just seem likesmart, steady, coachable quarterbacks for a team that hasn't hadone in a long time.However, there will be a trick to getting either Dalton with apick in the teens or 20s, Ponder with a pick in the 30s and that'swhere this whole draft turns for the 49ers.Of course, it will take some time to sort out the selection, andeven longer to get a full fair judgment of the quarterbackconsequences.The 49ers' top two picks are at No. 7and No. 45 overall, which presents some complexities.Even for a team as desperate for a quarterback, that hasannounced it will draft one at some point, and hired Harbaugh inlarge part for his ability to divine quarterback talent, No. 7seems like an awkward quarterback spot in this draft.Actually, it's the perfect place to get an elite defensiveplayer perhaps play-making LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson, if heshould slip past the first six teams.If Peterson is there, I think the 49ers will take him without pause orreflection, and plan for a quarterback in later selections.But what if Peterson is gone and strong-armed Missouriquarterback Blaine Gabbert is there at No. 7? That would presentHarbaugh and general manager Trent Baalke with their first hugequestion take Gabbert, take somebody else or trade the pick to ateam that really wanted Gabbert?I think the 49ers, at this point,arado rmt, would try tomove down, because I don't think Gabbert is an ideal fit.If they move down, they could possibly land Dalton with a lowerfirst-round choice or Ponder if they move further back and pick upan extra pick or two along the way.Their first two picks could turn out to be Peterson and Ponder(if they keep No. 7); or, if they trade down,ダークブラッド RMT, the top two 49ers' picks could possibly beNebraska cornerback Prince Amukamara and Ponder.Both are potential winning scenarios for the 49ers, I think, and would take somestrategizing.It would take a plan. They couldn't do this off-the-cuff.And what I'm hearing from people talking to 49ers scouts and executives is thatthe talent-evaluation process is as unified and clear-minded asanyone there can remember.That's a good sign for them, naturally. You want everyone onboard, on every pick, especially if it's for the futurequarterback.But the 49ers have to get the rightquarterback, at the right spot, whether they are unified on thedecision or not.Mostly, this decision will fall on Harbaugh's gut instinct andBaalke's ability to maneuver the 49ers into the best draft positionto take advantage."It's the DNA of quarterbacks," Harbaugh said last week whenasked how he evaluates the position. They have it, or theydon't,DarkBlood RMT."That's vague enough possibly to describe anybody from Auburn'sCam Newton at the top of the draft to Iowa's Ricky Stanzi in themiddle rounds but interesting enough to give us some guessworkhints.The 49ers will get a quarterback inthis draft. I don't think it will be Newton and he's likely to gofar ahead of the 49ers' No. 7 pick, anyway. I don'tthink it will be Gabbert.I don't think it will be Washington's Jake Locker, who is atough competitor but who was awfully inefficient in college.I don't think it will be Arkansas' Ryan Mallett or Nevada'sColin Kaepernick, though I can imagine Harbaugh getting tempted byKaepernick's raw size and skill.I think it will be Dalton or Ponder, if the 49ers can work this out right.Neither quarterback will wipe out the queasy memory of pickingAlex Smith in 2005, at least not right away. Heck, it's verypossible Ponder or Dalton will compete with Smith this season, ifSmith accepts the 49ers' offer to come back.But if the 49ers get this right, and if I'mright that they want Dalton or Ponder, then it will be the start ofthe next real quarterback generation, only seven years toolate.Tim Kawakami is a San Jose Mercury News columnist.NFL Draft· Today at 5 p.m. on ESPN

Bledsoe humbled by honor;Quarterback helped resurrect franch

Despite all that Tom Brady has achieved for the Patriots, New England football fansnever forgot his predecessor, Drew Bledsoe.Bledsoe, who played nine seasons for the Patriots and helped resurrect thefranchise in the mid-1990s, was voted by fans as the 18th member ofthe Patriots Hall of Fame yesterday.Since the new process for induction was instituted in 2007,Bledsoe earned the highest percentage of votes by any candidate,and became the first player to be selected by fans into the hall inhis first year of eligibility."Obviously, this is a tremendous honor," Bledsoe said during aconference call. "It means a lot to me and a lot to my family."Bledsoe got the news of his induction from Patriots owner Robert Kraft, andBledsoe said their phone conversation was pretty emotional."He had some words that he shared with me that just wereexpressing gratitude for my time there that were really touching,"Bledsoe said.The 39-year-old Bledsoe and former Holy Cross two-way star JonMorris, who was selected to the Patriots Hall of Fame by the seniorselection committee, will be inducted during a public ceremonySept. 17 at the hall at Patriot Place.Bledsoe was the first overall pick in the 1993 NFL draft out ofWashington State and started at quarterback for the Patriots until early in the 2001season. He finished his New England career with 29,657 passingyards - a team record until Brady broke it in 2009 - and 166touchdowns.He still holds Patriots single-season passingrecords for attempts (691) and completions (400), both set in1994.Bledsoe's list of his best Patriots memories is a long one,but it includes the '94 victory over the Vikings, in which hecompleted 45 of 70 passes to spark the start of a seven-gamewinning streak that got the Pats to the playoffs for the first timesince 1986.Bledsoe also mentioned New England's two home playoff gamesduring the 1996 Super Bowl season, including "Fog Bowl II" againstthe Steelers."The crowd was as loud as Foxboro ever was in my recollection,"he said.And, of course, there was the AFC Championship game of the 2001season in Pittsburgh, where Bledsoe, who hadn't played in 126 days,bounded onto the field to relieve an injured Brady, threw atouchdown pass to David Patten, and helped the Patriots get to Super BowlXXXVI."That game is a memory that stands out very clearly,maplestory RMT," Bledsoesaid.It was Bledsoe's last game in a Patriots uniform. He was traded tothe Bills on draft day a couple of months later. Bledsoe played forBuffalo from 2002-04 and for the Cowboys, where he was reunitedwith his former Patriots coach, Bill Parcells, from2005-06.Bledsoe announced his retirement on April 11, 2007.One New England moment Bledsoe would probably prefer to forgetwas the infamous hit from Jets linebacker Mo Lewis during thesecond game of the 2001 season. Bledsoe was knocked out andsuffered a sheared blood vessel in his chest. The play opened thedoor for Brady and changed the course of Patriots history forever.Bledsoe and Brady actually have remained pretty close. Bledsoesaid they continue to exchange messages. He is also still in touchwith former teammates Todd Rucci, Scott Zolak, Max Lane and LawyerMilloy,ro RMT.Bledsoe said he hasn't talked to Parcells since leaving theCowboys in 2006. Parcells and former defensive tackle HoustonAntwine were the other Patriots Hall of Fame finaliststhis year."Just to be considered in the company of Bill Parcells andHouston Antwine was a great honor in and of itself," Bledsoesaid.Bledsoe is now in the wine business. He co-founded DoublebackWinery; the first Doubleback bottling was in 2007. Grapes for thewines are harvested in and around Walla Walla, Wash., Bledsoe'shometown. Bledsoe and his wife, Maura, were last in New Englandlast year, selling wine and catching up with old friends.Not surprisingly, Bledsoe planned to celebrate his upcominginduction with a special glass last night."I mean, shoot," Bledsoe said, "that's kind of what we do. Bravo We NEVER Authorized 'Bible Housewi

"The Real Housewives of the Bible" insist they answer to a Higher calling -- but now,ro RMT, the show's creator may also have to answer to Bravo ... because the network claims they NEVER signed off on the project,アラド戦記 RMT. If you haven't seen the show ,aion RMT... it's because it went straight to DVD .... and it's also not a reality show ... but rather a scripted series with some seriously religious story lines. Problem is ... Bravo holds the trademark on the "Real Housewives" name ... and the network claims "Bible Housewives" creator Ty Adams never got permission to use it. A rep for the network tells TMZ ... "Bravo is in no way associated with this project" ... adding, "We vigorously protect our trademarks and take appropriate action when necessary."So far, it's unclear if Bravo has contacted Adams over the matter ... but it sounds like it's only a matter of time.
