Starcraft 2 Journey to Diamond League Wk3

Only the more interesting matches will be looked at with detail to reduce the length of the article.。

If there are any suggestions or feedback about this series, please let me know on the OnRPG forums  (http://www.onrpg.com/boards/) @ Abubakr (http://www.onrpg.com/boards/member-abubakr.html). Alternatively you may message me in Starcraft II (Abubakr, 109).。

Win/Loss: 2 / 9。

By Mohammad Abubakr, OnRPG Journalist。

Games played: 11。

To catch up on this series, be sure to check out our article section on our Starcraft II game profile.。

The following game did not go very well because I did not react correctly. At this point I was not concentrating on which units are good against other units. I simply continued to pump out roaches while my opponent was smart to warp in Immortals and Stalkers. While Roaches are very good against Zealots, they are not good against Immortals. I had a larger army and an economic lead but I did not make the correct decisions. I believe Zerglings would have won me that game.。

Final Rank: Bronze - 8。

 。

Initial Rank: Bronze - 5。

Some live streamers stream their player lessons. I use this to my advantage to learn some new tricks. One of them is to always scout around the six minute mark with an overlord. Unfortunately I did not play close attention to my overlord’s pathing and got him killed before I was able to see anything. I was blind for far too long and did not know what to expect. My opponent had a lot of marines so if I had just built banelings I would easily have won. Unfortunately I got roaches instead and was not able to defeat the huge marine ball.。

 。

 。 。

The first match I found to be interesting was against a Zerg player that continued to apply pressure. I have been able to hold off many all-in attacks in the past so I was not really worried. However, he pumped out units at an unbelievable rate and I was forced to concede. After watching the replay I found out that my opponent had multiple hatcheries within his base. Normally hatcheries are used to expand around additional mineral patches but I later found out they could be used anywhere for the sole purpose of producing units. I will definitely build additional hatcheries anytime I feel I have additional resources.。

 。

The third week of my journey was rather disappointing. Dropping from rank 5 to rank 8 because of 9 losses and only two wins is never a good thing. My ranking was also dropped due to inactivity; I spent more time watching Starcraft II than actually playing it.。 。

My performance this week was not very good. Instead of gaining rankings, I dropped from rank five to eight. I am sure this drop was caused due to inactivity and playing after midnight. Hopefully next week turns out to be better as I aim to get at least rank four. I really need to get better so that once Season Three begins I do not get placed into bronze again.。

 。 。

 。

A lot of time was spent tuning into live streams and reading the Liquipedia (SCII fan wiki) to learn about opening builds. While I did have basic understanding about the 14 gas 14 pool opening, I was not sure when and what other builds should be constructed. Watching other Zerg players fight against high level opponents taught me about timings and the correct reactions.。

 。

The only reason I won two games this week was because I had an economic lead. My opponents continued to apply pressure but I was able to hold and counter attack because of my lead in income. On the other hand, most of my losses were the result of all-ins from opponents and because I did not react correctly to certain situations.。

This article features the third week of my journey to diamond league. No progress in terms of leagues will be seen because of the Season 3 lock but I feel that these two weeks helped me to learn a lot about Starcraft II.。

I always try to pick out the benefits of each situation. Even through such a rough week, I had learned a lot about gameplay strategies and how to become more efficient. After losing a lot of games, I decided to stop playing for a bit and just look into the game.。

Forza 4 Latest trailer presents Infineon

The latest Forza 4 trailer is typically gorgeous and gives us an in-game look at Infineon Raceway. The track is located at Sears Point in the southern Sonoma Mountains near Sonoma, California, USA and stretches 2.52 miles. The trailer shows the tarmac being torn-up by clutch of conventional race cars - no Warthog to be found, we're afraid. The Halo 4 vehicle is available only in the Kinect-friendly Autovista Mode. Have a look at that after you've watched the Infineon Raceway trailer below. Tom Pakinkis

Mirror's Edge 2 uses Battlefield 3 engine

Although EA has said a couple of times that the Mirror's Edge franchise will return one day, things look to becoming ever more solid as Official PlayStation Magazine tips the sequel to return on Frostbite 2 with reassuring certainty. Back in June EA Games boss Frank Gibeau felt comfortable enough to avoid dismissing the notion of Mirror's Edge 2 on DICE's Frostbite 2 engine saying, "You'll see that combination I'm sure."OPM is now reporting on insider whispers which add more credence to the idea of Faith hop, skip and jumping onto Battlefield 3's stunning engine."The Frostbite 2 engine will pave the way for Mirror's Edge to make a free-running return," says the mag, much to our delight. What exactly that will look like is still uncertain (Faith may not even feature). EA itself has admitted that it needed time to work out the best way to approach a Mirror's Edge sequel, although it sounds as though that work is already under-way.Order OPM here and have it delivered straight to your door

Heroes of Newerth F2P ReReview

,jimmy choo boots

Heroes of Newerth: F2P ReReview By Mohammad Abubakr, OnRPG JournalistHeroes of Newerth is a multiplayer online battle arena by S2Games for Windows, Mac and Linux. It aims to provide an improved version of the Warcraft III mod Defence of the Ancients by allowing the game to run on its own engine. Since the game is not just a mod anymore the developers can tweak it to their liking and not have to worry about the restrictions placed upon the modding community. The game does not try to innovate and change how DotA was played. In simplest terms, HoN is DotA with improved graphics and the addition of many needed features. This means that DotA players will not have a hard time getting into the game and will only need to relearn names of items and heroes. S2Games does a good job providing the HoN equivalents on their wiki page. Although most of the game is exactly like DotA some of the features, jimmy choo outlet, heroes and items are unique to HoN. Since DotA was just a mod for Warcraft III,cheap jimmy choo, the developers were unable to add in features such as the ability to reconnect and improved graphics. HoN has solved these issues by allowing user reconnection and providing improved graphics. The graphics are not amazing compared to today's standards but are a big improvement from DotA graphics. It also offers a ranking and matchmaking system that players can use to join matches and compete. Your match making rating either increases or decreases depending on the result of the match. It is not affected by your individual performance and only relies on final team outcome. The rating does not change by a set amount but depends on your opponents. A rookie against a top player will receive more points than if the rookie was against another rookie. All your stats such as kills, deaths and assists are recorded and displayed on your player profile. This allows players to track their progress but also allows S2Games to keep track of leavers. DotA players could easily get away with leaving matches midway but in HoN users are punished for leaving. If your leave percentage gets too high you are only able to play in matches allowing leavers until you lower your percentage. I really love this system because just one disconnected player can ruin the entire game.Free players do have some restrictions placed upon them. A free player cannot play all of the game modes unless they have tokens which may be purchased from the shop. S2Games claims that this token system was put into place to ensure teams, which include free to play players, do not provide disadvantages to the team just because they do not have the counter-pick hero available. Tokens allow the player to choose any hero even if they do not own it. A token is consumed every game unless you are playing the all pick mode. Legacy players, players which previously bought the game, have unlimited tokens.Free to play players may become verified upon hitting level five or purchasing gold coins. The verified system lets players decide if they want to be matched up with newer players or not. It reduces the complaints from veteran players about new F2P noobs. Once you become verified you also receive three free tokens. The concept of HoN is very simple: control your chosen hero to destroy the opposing team's main building. Each team can be formed of up to five players and no team is allowed to select duplicate heroes. Each hero gains experience by killing creeps or heroes. The creeps of each faction, Hellbourne and Legion, continuously battle to try and take down towers and award gold to the player landing the last hit on them. You may attack your own team to deny experience and gold from the enemy or to control how the lane is pushed. Buildings may only be attacked if they are under 10% health to prevent abuse of the denying system. Some heroes can deny kills by using self damaging spells. While it seems very simple on paper, the game can be quite overwhelming with its large variety of heroes, items and game play mechanics. The community does not help solve this problem as it can be quite hard to find nice and helpful players in the MOBA genre. You will get yelled at for your mistakes to the point where you really do not want to play. Do not give up as this genre is very rewarding once you get past the steep learning curve. As of today there are 88 heroes split between the two factions Hellbourne and Legion. No player is allowed to select duplicate heroes but may pick from either faction in the all pick mode. There are various modes available such as random picks and draft mode which allows hero bans. Each mode has a casual mode available that makes the game easier to play by offering changes such as no loss of gold on death. The selection of free heroes rotates weekly and offers fifteen new choices for players. The in game shop allows players to purchase their favourite heroes with either silver or gold coins. Silver coins can be obtained simply by playing while gold coins can only be obtained with cash. The prices of heroes range between 100-400 silver coins on average and may take a while to get as you receive 4-10 coins per game which usually lasts around 40 minutes. Players that purchased HoN before it went F2P receive all current and upcoming heroes for free but must purchase early access to new heroes unless they want to wait. This early access feature is not liked by the B2P community of HoN because it may give players with money an advantage over other players. The shop also offers other items such as alternate hero skins and announcer packs which are all purchasable with silver or gold coins. Some premium items feature ridiculous prices for silver coins and must be purchased with gold coins unless you save up coins for a long time. The standard map is split into three lanes with three towers for each faction. Behind the third tower lies the melee and ranged barracks. Once these have been destroyed the creeps in that lane will grow stronger for the faction that killed the barracks. All of the lanes lead towards the main building which is protected by two more turrets. In between the three lanes there is the jungle. The jungle is split into two areas for both factions which spawn either neutral creeps which are easier to kill or legendary creeps which are harder to kill but provide greater EXP and gold. The normal setup for a team is two champions for top and bottom lane and a solo champion in the middle but a tri-lane or jungling setup is very viable.A river divides the two jungles and spawns a rune after a set time interval at either the top or bottom of the river. These runes offer heroes buffs such as double damage or invisibility. In DotA the runes spawn at the same time as the creeps but it has been changed in HoN to discourage level one rune fights. The bottom of the river is also the location of the boss monster Kongor. Kongor provides teams with gold, experience and an item drop. The item can be looted by any hero and gives the holder the ability to instantly revive upon death. The item does disappear after some time so it is wise to put it to good use.The secret shops have been replaced with observatories which only sell wards. All items can be bought from the main shop from your base. The shop was not very user friendly for new players but the HoN 2.0 patch has fixed this issue. Now the shop is organized into nice categories and even features built in guides. The guides are submitted by the community and provide newer players with suggestions for items, skill builds and tips for their selected hero.HoN has done a good job offering DotA with new features, engine and graphics. Due to the addition of unique heroes the metagame is different from DotA and can provide more viable play styles for players.Although the game can be very overwhelming for newer players, I advise you to continue learning about the game because once you get past the steep learning the game can be a lot of fun.Graphics: 3/5Controls: 4/5Features: 3/5Customization: 5/5Community: 2/5

Games are too expensive (but Skyrim isn't

,jimmy choo boots

Games are too expensive and the industry would benefit from lower price points, jimmy choo outlet, reckons Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim director Todd Howard. Speaking in the latest issue of PSM3,cheap jimmy choo, the Bethesda designer argues that $60 is "a lot of money for entertainment" - but insists that Skyrim is one title that's truly giving gamers their quid's worth."I've thought for a long time that games are too expensive," he said, adding that "I don't put us in that category of course - for what we give you, for sixty bucks or however many 'quid' it is. "That's a lot of money for entertainment, so I think the good news is that in certain markets - PC, iPhone, mobile - we can see prices coming down."But I do think industry-wide we would benefit from more games out at $19 or $29. I would try more games. Because I'm not going to try a game for $60. It's a tough decision."That's why people read reviews and previews, because it's not only a money decision, it's a time-investment decision. It's not like going to a movie."Howard's comments echo those of Namco Bandai Partners VP Olivier Comte, who said in an interview he thinks the £40 price point is fair for developers but for the consumer it is simply too much."From September to December there are three new blockbusters every week, and consumers just can't afford to buy all that," he said. "I feel all the big video game companies need to join together in a worldwide summit to discuss the future of our industry. I think we have to pull our thoughts together."Buy the new look PSM3 online and have it delivered to your door. Andy Robinson

Ubisoft drops From Dust DRM

,jimmy choo outlet

Ubisoft is to release a patch for the PC version of From Dust that will remove online authentication DRM entirely. According to Rock Paper Shotgun, cheap jimmy choo, the publisher originally stated the game would require a one-off online activation, before later deciding it would always need an active internet connection to launch. If the latest post on the matter by a Ubisoft forum manager is to believed, that won't be the case for much longer."We recognize that one of our posts in the From Dust forum regarding the need for authentication in the game was not clear," it reads. "We sincerely apologize for the misunderstanding."Our tech teams are working on a patch that should release in approximately two weeks that will eliminate the need for any online authentication. This development time is required as we are working to ensure that those who have already started the game, and who's progress is currently saved on our servers, will receive and save their game information locally."Once the patch is ready, players who already have the game will automatically receive the update on their next login and subsequent game sessions will be 100% offline."Earlier this month, Ubisoft also backtracked on the use of always-on DRM for Driver: San Francisco following negative consumer feedback. Square Enix's Deus Ex: Human Revolution has knocked 505 Games' Zumba Fitness of the top of the official UK weekly games chart. Shrek and other DreamWorks characters go

DreamWorks and Activision have announced DreamWorks Super Star Kartz, a racing game staring DreamWorks characterz such az Shrek that, we're sure, will be NOTHINGZ like Mario Kart. At allz. Nopez. 14 characters from DreamWorks' movies Shrek, Madagascar, How To Train Your Dragon and Monsters Vs. Aliens will turn up for arcade races in which you'll be able to "speed, jump, power-up and boost" through karting courses no doubt based on environments from the films. It'll also have stunts, weapons and "hilarious" commentary from Madagascar lemur King Julien. Battle, Circuit and Time Trial modes will feature, along with four-player split-screen multiplayer "on consoles". There's no mention of online play or any multiplayer for handhelds, which is worrying.DreamWorks Super Star Kartz, with a 'z' because they didn't get the memo about random 'z's in titles not being cool anymore, will be out 'this holiday season' for DS, 3DS, Wii, Xbox and PS3. THQ MX Vs. ATV Alive DLC experiment was

THQ CEO Brian Farrell has admitted that an experimental new pricing structure the publisher tried with MX vs. ATV Alive 'was not a success'.In an attempt to "take some of our learnings from the free-to-play market and apply them to the console world", THQ released the off road racer at the budget price of $39.99, with less content on the disc than you'd expect in a full-price title, but placing a bigger focus on regular and substantial paid DLC packs that would allow players to selectively purchase the elements of the game they wanted. But Farrell said in a recent earnings call that while the reduced entry price "gave us good acceleration of sales, it just wasn't enough to drive the installed base to what we wanted to do". Ignoring factors such as the poor reviews for the game (63 and 62-out-of-100 Metacritic averages on Xbox and PS3 respectively), Farrell deemed the pricing structure a failure. "Our takeaway there is it's not a great model in the console market because with the high fixed cost of goods in the current console model, you can't get the price point low enough to drive that installed base for the client out there to drive the DLC."We thought the idea was (and still is) an interesting one - just poorly executed. The game, to start with, just wasn't good enough; the on-disc content was overly minimal to point of it feeling like a rip off despite the slightly lower price tag. But the thought of being able to pay for the parts of a game you want and leave out the parts you don't is appealing. We'd be interested to see how this build-it-yourself structure would work with a more desirable franchise - like Call of Duty, for example - and with a starting package that warrants the entry price tag and better-timed, more substantial DLC releases that truly allow gamers to craft the game they want.
